In the weeks before your test

Use evidence from lessons to decide what preparation you need.

Free guide · First Pass Academy · Updated 21 September 2026

Your aim

Use recent driving evidence to plan preparation with your instructor.

Choose a learning stage

Your checklist

Tick items as you review them. This checklist is not saved.

Look for repeatable performance

Discuss your recent lessons with your instructor. Which skills work without reminders, and which still need support? A strong drive on one familiar road is useful evidence, but it is not the same as consistent driving across different situations.

Use a mock as feedback

Agree a suitable mock test with your instructor. Afterwards, separate the result from the learning: what happened, why did it happen and what practice would help? Ask for specific examples rather than a simple ready/not-ready label.

Make a manageable plan

Choose a small number of priorities and review them in the next lesson. Include unfamiliar situations at an appropriate level. Use the official Ready to Pass resources alongside your instructor’s judgement; an online checklist cannot predict your result.

A worked example

  1. 1Review
  2. 2Discuss
  3. 3Prepare

A familiar practice drive went well, but you still needed reminders when a situation changed. Discuss that difference instead of judging readiness from the easiest drive alone.

Common trap: A familiar route or one good session does not demonstrate consistent independent driving.

Try it before your next step

Write down one skill you can perform without help and one situation where support is still needed. Choose an example of each to discuss with your instructor.

Compare with a helpful response

Useful evidence describes the situation and support: I planned these junctions independently; I needed a reminder when visibility changed. Agree targeted practice and use official readiness guidance with your instructor.

Think it through: Is one good mock a guarantee of passing?

No. Use it as evidence to discuss strengths and remaining needs with your instructor.
