The official car test uses 14 clips. One clip contains two developing hazards, and each hazard can score up to five points.
Something that could make you change speed or direction: a parked car, a side road, a cyclist or a child near the kerb.
The risk starts to happen: the car indicates and moves, the child turns towards the road, or the cyclist moves around an obstruction.
Click when the hazard begins to develop. Keep observing, but avoid continuous or patterned clicking because that clip can score zero.
Click when you see a clear sign it may enter your path—for example, an indicator, moving wheels or the vehicle edging out. Ease off and create space.
A child beside the road is a potential hazard. Click as the child changes direction, runs towards the road or becomes partly hidden behind a vehicle.
Click when the cyclist moves out to avoid the narrowing or obstruction. Hold back instead of attempting to squeeze through.
Click as a pedestrian appears near the front of the bus or the bus signals and begins to move. Reduce speed while the view is restricted.
Click when the vehicle starts rolling or its wheels turn into your route. Reassess the junction and be ready to slow or stop.
Click when the horse reacts, changes line or the rider signals. Slow right down, stay quiet and leave generous space.
